Toilet Repair Questions, Answered
Straight answers from local plumbers who've been working in Nampa and the Treasure Valley since 1960.
How much does it cost to fix a running toilet?
+
Most running-toilet repairs involve a new fill valve, flapper, and supply line. If the toilet itself is cracked or well past its service life, we'll talk through whether replacement makes more sense than continuing to patch it.
When should I replace a toilet instead of repairing it?
+
Replace it if you see a crack in the bowl or tank, the toilet rocks because the flange is failing, repairs are stacking up, or it's a pre-1994 model using 3+ gallons per flush. A modern 1.28 gpf toilet pays for itself in water savings within a few years.
Why does my toilet keep clogging?
+
Frequent clogs usually mean one of three things: a low-flow toilet that's underperforming, a partial blockage further down the drain line, or roots in the main sewer. If the same toilet clogs every week, a quick camera look will tell you which one you're fighting.
Do you install bidet seats and smart toilets?
+
Yes. We install bidet seats, comfort-height toilets, and full smart toilets. If you've already bought the unit we'll install it; if not, we can recommend models that hold up well in Treasure Valley water.
How fast can you get a toilet fixed?
+
Call 208.466.3707 and we'll give you the next available appointment. We're open Mon–Fri 8a–4:30p and schedule as quickly as our calendar allows.
Why is my toilet rocking on the floor?
+
A rocking toilet usually means the closet flange has broken or settled, or the wax ring has compressed. Don't ignore it — every rock breaks the wax seal and lets sewer gas (and eventually water) escape under the floor. We can re-seat it with a new wax ring and repair the flange in one visit.
There's water on the floor around the base of my toilet — is the wax ring bad?
+
Often, yes. A failed wax ring leaks when the toilet is flushed. But the same symptom can come from condensation on the tank, a cracked tank, or a loose supply line. We confirm the source before pulling the toilet.
Should I use those drop-in tank tablets?
+
No. The chlorine-bleach pucks degrade the rubber flapper and gaskets inside the tank — they're a common reason newer toilets start running and need parts replaced years early. Clean the bowl manually instead.
My toilet flushes weakly — is that a clog or the toilet itself?
+
Lift the tank lid and watch the flush. If the tank water drops slowly, the flapper or flush valve is the issue. If it dumps fast but the bowl doesn't clear, the trapway or drain line is restricted. We diagnose before we replace anything.
Can you install a toilet I bought myself?
+
Yes — homeowner-supplied toilets are no problem. We'll inspect the flange and supply line, install with a new wax ring and bolts, and haul off the old toilet. We warranty our workmanship even on units we didn't supply.
